Story
Dear friends
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As you can see, my (dare I say it) ‘famous’ curly locks have been downed for lockdown.
Before I’d even finished mulling over the suggestion, the clippers had been fetched by Olly and the shearing was in process, overseen with understandable hilarity by Iris & Claire.
There’s no blood, sweat and tears in this. No hardship or heroism. Just a little humiliation. Akin to how a dog must feel after its dreaded visit to the groomer (although arm & leg restraints weren’t required...and I didn’t frantically tear around the garden afterwards rolling in stuff in a desperate bid to regain my sense of pride and identity).
It’s merely a small act that I hope will encourage you to donate to CPAG (Child Poverty Action Group) today.
We are all facing financial pressure of varying degrees as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, but we all know too that we, and our children, are amongst the lucky ones.
An out of work low income family with two children living in the UK will still be 20% below the poverty line, despite the recent uplift in government support during the crisis.
Covid-19 aside:
4.1 million children live in poverty in the UK (one of the worst rates in the industrialised world).
47% of children living in lone-parent families are in poverty.
70% of children growing up in poverty live in working families.
5.2 million children are expected to be in poverty by 2022.
For more than 50 years, CPAG have used their understanding of what causes poverty to campaign for policies that will prevent and solve it. They provide training, advice and information to make sure families get the financial support they need.
Thanks so much for reading, and thanks even more if you’re able to help me raise some much needed funds.
Can’t wait to see you all again before (my hair gets) too long.
