Story

Craig Gill will be forever remembered as being the great drummer with the Inspiral Carpets, However he was much more than that.   Firstly he was fiercely passionate about his wife and children.    He was also a D.J - businessman - music historian (co-founder of Manchester Music Tours) and had an encyclopaedic knowledge of music, covering all genres

Craig suffered from Tinnitus - a condition brought on by his love of drumming, D.J'ing and love of music in general.  Craig loved to be outdoors and enjoyed walking around Dovestones, (an area of outstanding natural beauty close to where he lived.)

I knew Craig for 25 years. I am a keen climber and know Dovestones and the rocks there like the back of my hand -  Myself and Craig would often talk of going to Dovestones together so I could 'show him the ropes' and do some climbing together.

Due to Craig's unbelievable and sad early passing - (and my procrastination) we never got to do our climb..

In memory of Craig and with his families support - I am attempting to climb the Eiger (3970m Switzerland) via the Mittellegi ridge. in July 2019. - prior to the climb I will be training and undertaking several other 4000m peaks in the alps to gain the experience and techniques required for the Eiger climb. I will also be undertaking several Ultra trek type challenges in the build up to the climb..  Each event will be to raise money for The British Tinnitus Association and raise awareness of this devastating condition. more info on BTA is below and on their website https://www.tinnitus.org.uk/

The first sponsored event will start on the evening of 22nd September 2017 - The peak district challenge - Ultra Silver.

A 75km trek through the peak district wilderness - starting at 9pm and having to be complete by 9pm the following evening - the route is unmarked and requires night navigation.

The Climb to the summit of the Eiger will be in memory of our friend Craig Gill.

The British Tinnitus Association is the only national charity specialising in tinnitus support. Their vision is a world where no one suffers from tinnitus. They receive no money from the government, so are 100% reliant on the generosity and support of members of the public and grant-making organisations to be able to support people with tinnitus across the UK.All of their work is paid for by the generosity of supporters like you.

Please give what you can, no matter how small.
