Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page which has been set up for me by the Martlets Hospice.
On Friday I was lucky enough to take part in the Martlets Midnight Walk. I've always wanted to do something like this for charity but at 99 years of age I never thought I'd be able to. So when my friend Marilyn said she'd help me by pushing me around the course I jumped at the chance.
It was such an great night and so exciting to be out at Midnight. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Roy and Marilyn, who live in the Sheltered Housing with me, looked after me the whole way round.
We did all get very wet at the end of the walk and I think they found it quite hard to push me up the hills, especially with the strong winds, but they never once complained. The atmosphere and being with all the other ladies was amazing. The lovely marshals cheered us on all the way around and one in particular, called Steve, was so kind and helped pushed me up the biggest hill.
I think we might have been the last ones to finish but I felt like I had won. I feel so privileged to have taken part and really hope that I can do it again next year to celebrate my 100th birthday.
I'm so pleased to have been able to raise money for the Hospice as they do such good work. It would be lovely if you would sponsor me. People have been making a fuss about my age but I don't think it matters I just think it shows you're never too old to do something new.
Thanks for reading my story, Eileen.
