Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October 2018 I travelled to the slums of New Delhi, India to work with the incredible charity Asha. I fell in love with the culture and people and despite what we would consider very poor living conditions the communities were extremely welcoming, joyful and kind. Asha means hope in Hindi and during this global pandemic we have all relied on hope of a better tomorrow.
India is currently the country with the third-largest caseload of Covid-19 in the world. Delhi is among the worst affected cities in the country, and the slums have many cases. The Asha public health Covid-19 interventions are multiple and intense. Most people are out of work, and in desperate need of food parcels.
Houses and homes in the slums are mostly single rooms with very little ventilation and space to move, let alone social distance. The alleyways are packed and healthcare is minimal. Asha provides healthcare and resources to those most in need no matter their religion, race, gender or age.
The coronavirus lockdown in India saw many families suddenly jobless and with minimal savings, causing most to cut down to one meal a day. I want to help change this by raising funds to help support families like the ones I met when I was visiting New Delhi.
