Event: Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride 2017, on 30 April 2017

Story

I am cycling the Tour de Yorkshire for the Margaret Carey Foundation.
This charity is who I volunteer with as a bicycle mechanic in Shipley.

They work with communities around the world, recycling old bikes and wheelchairs to prevent them going to landfill, but also working in prison workshops to help people learn new skills.

For me, having the opportunity to work in the shop has improved my mental health so much and although the past year has been marred by injury (falling off my bike) i'm looking forward to riding and raising some money towards supporting the great work the MCF do!

I am only doing the short route (50k) which may not seem like much but this is because of the 3 surgeries I had in the past 12 months! It's going to be a challenge!

About the charity

Our mission is to provide bike maintenance training opportunities, resources and environments that support rehabilitation of people in prisons in order to help break the cycle of re-offending as well as undertaking preventative work in the community. Refurbished bikes are donated to people in need.
