According to the Children's Society, 5 million children will live in poverty in the UK by the end of 2020. Yet despite this, the government shockingly voted to end the extra funding families who live 'below the poverty line' receive to feed their children during school holidays. In a classroom of 30 children, 9 live in poverty, so we must do something to help!
Silklife Foodbank has seen a massive 73% increase in referrals made by frontline professionals since the pandemic began. The foodbank now distributes 1 tonne of food every week to people facing an emergency hunger crisis in the borough of Macclesfield. Whilst a collection service during school holidays is not available, school safeguarding officers are able to refer vulnerable families to the foodbank, who will then receive delivery of ambient foods for up to 3 weeks.
I will be cycling from Chester to Llandudno and back (100 Miles) in a day (when we're able to with lockdown restrictions) to raise money to support this great cause. If you're from the Macclesfield area or just care about making a difference please support this cause to show unity amongst people and that we will not settle for the self-centeredness and lack of awareness that lives in parts of our government.
