Story

Anyone who went to school with me may remember that time I tried to run the 1500m on sports day and I finished woefully last (apart from that girl who got an asthma attack and had to drop out).

To this day, I am not the fastest runner but I am the most determined. I have been training hard, getting up at 6am and going for 10km runs before work and getting up on a Sunday to go for a run (it's alongside the beach so it's not so terrible).

I am so excited not only for the run, for which I will run alongside Mo Farrah. Okay, maybe not alongside, but really far behind. Nevertheless, I will have run in the same race as him but I am also really excited about the charity I am fundraising for.

I am fundraising for CAFOD and this year, their Lent appeal will be raising funds to provide clean and safe water across the world.

The burden of collecting water often falls to the women of the household and if they have to walk for miles to collect the water this means time away from school, work and even simply socialising.

The Lent Appeal is raising money to provide not only clean water but training so the pumps can be maintained and education on hygiene and sanitation in Uganda, Zimbabwe and the Democratic and Republic of Congo.

Furthermore, CAFOD have been awarded Match Funding meaning that every pound raised will be doubled.

About the charity

CAFOD works with local partners and communities across the world - responding to emergencies, promoting long-term development and raising public awareness of the causes of poverty. We work with people of all faiths and none for a safe, sustainable and peaceful world.
