Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I have ambitiously set myself the challenge to run the upcoming Bath Half Marathon in October.

Anyone who knows me will know that I am NOT a runner, so this will not come naturally to me.

I have recently moved to a new city and started working as a doctor, so running (and exercise in general) has taken a huge backseat and I feel the most unfit I’ve been in a long time.

However, I am determined to still do this ambitious half marathon no matter how long it takes me!

The reason I am pushing myself is in memory of my amazing Uncle Jamie. He fought his way through many impossible challenges one after another, with a positive outlook and a smile on his face. He was so brave and will always be an inspiration to me with how he coped with everything he faced.

I want to raise awareness and funds for Alpha-1 UK Support Group (Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency) as this genetic condition has impacted our family enormously. Jamie suffered with its difficult effects, and my dad, my brother and myself are also affected in different ways.

Being diagnosed with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency was difficult for all of us, because many healthcare professionals had not heard of it nor understood it well. It took a long time for Jamie to receive his diagnosis and for us all as a family to be given information about it. The support and information Jamie and our family received from Alpha-1 charities was so important, so I want to fundraise for this support group so they can continue to help more families like us through their Alpha-1 diagnosis and beyond.

Please use this opportunity to learn a little bit about this condition, visit their website and help me increase much needed awareness so that it is more widely recognised and understood by healthcare services.

I will aim to post some updates on this page with more information on the condition to help your understanding. I might also include some updates on how my running training is going!

Thank you in advance for your donation, it really means a lot to me and I hope I can make Jamie proud with my run! X
