Story
I knew Steve as a games programmer, Chivalry-player extraordinaire, guerrilla gardener, and politically engaged green advocate who was always open minded and thoughtful in discussion (I’m sure he’d have a great deal of wisdom to impart with our political situation in the UK today!)
I worked with Steve in my previous job, and sadly not long after our
redundancies he had a bowel cancer diagnosis, which took him in May 2015.
I wanted to use my place in the Great North Run to raise money in his memory, thought it’d be fitting to sign this off with some words from him:
“Bad news guys. My oncologist has for now ended chemotherapy
for me. So natural decline is in order now. I'll be monitored and efforts to maintain comfort will continue. Realistically it is unlikely to be resumed. Tumor has not spread to knew organs but has gotten nastier in awkward places.
There is quite a lot I will miss out on it feels so I ask friends to be mindful of the moment and not to squander time as it has utility.
I'm glad I've made it to season 5 of game of thrones.”
