This is something very close to our hearts after the very traumatic  delivery of our beautiful daughter Eva In April 2013.

Having had a very normal and relaxed pregnancy I was booked for an induction after already being 14 days overdue. It was on day 2 of the induction that things started to go wrong, whilst being monitored Eva's  heart rate stopped. I was then rushed to theatre moments later for a 'crash emergency C section'  I was put under a general anesthetic whilst my husband was asked to wait outside. Two minutes later our daughter was delivered, she was however technically stillborn and did not breathe for the first 6 minutes.  She was placed on life support and rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where she was then diagnosed with HIE ( Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy) a decision was then made to cool Eva's body temperature from 37 degrees to 33.5 degrees where she was to remain for the next 72 hours. This was a relatively new procedure and was to help prevent any further fits or brain damage from the lack of oxygen her brain had already received. We are now aware that Eva was baby number 44 to receive this treatment in the South East.

Hours after her delivery my husband and I were informed that Eva was very poorly due to a number factors and was not expected to survive the next 12 hours. We we're also advised to prepare ourselves should she survive as she may have suffered some long term brain damage leading to physical or mental disability.

Finally at 5 hours old I met my daughter for the first time and could see she was every bit the fighter and from then on she shocked and amazed all Drs with her will to live and road to recovery.

After 18 long days at hospital we we're finally able to bring our little miracle home.

Eva is now 10 months old and returns to hospital every 3 months for development reviews shocking her consultant on every visit and at this time is doing amazing, being described as advanced for her age and showing no current signs of long term effects. She is a very happy cheeky little girl. We honestly feel that without the care, support and great work that this Neonatal Intensive Care Unit have provided, her outcome could have been very different.

We have decided that all monies raised from this event will be donated to buying a piece of equipment needed to continue this amazing cooling and life saving treatment, so that many more parents get the chance to bring home their babies like we did with Eva.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, so please if you can give a  little to help save a life.

Many Thanks
