On 22nd September I will be getting up, down and dirty by taking part in the South London Tough Mudder, a 10 mile mud and obstacle course designed to drag you out of your comfort zone by testing your physical strength, stamina, and mental grit. A challenge right up my street (although, I am a little scared!). I thought it would only be right to add that extra push and raise funds for Animal Health Trust and awareness for Zoe’s Journey. Something very close to my heart.
As many of you know, last year I lost my best friend, Jorge. After a short but extremely brave battle with bone cancer, at just four years old, we had to say our final goodbyes and thank you’s. Thank you’s for the entertainment and joy he bought us every single day, and of course the cuddles.
During this time, we came across a page on facebook called Zoes Journey. A page set up in memory of a beautiful girl who also battled cancer. Not only do they endlessly fundraise for Animal Health Trust, they provide amazing support to members going through heartbreak of losing their best friends to cancer. I don’t know how we could have coped without them.
To this day I still can’t believe my boy isn’t here pestering me with his beloved tennis ball, sitting on me whilst I try and do a home workout or chewing on his sisters’ ears... But his presence will forever live on in our minds.
Unfortunately the outlook for dogs and other animals with cancer is not good. I hope one day there will be a cure, and Animal Health Trust want to reduce the suffering and loss caused by cancer; both for the animals affected, and their loving owners who face the heartbreak.
