We fund cutting-edge research to cure chronic spinal cord injury

Story

Hi guys! We are really excited to be taking part in the Marathon Des Sables in 2019.

We will be arriving in Morocco in April to take on this multy-day ultra-marathon. It is the equivalent length to 6 marathons in a row (with a double marathon on day4 ! - thats 52 miles - yes ... it really is). As part of the race , we must carry all of our provisions including food and cooking equipment on our backs , and the race takes place in the Sahara dessert, on sand. And the temperature gets to a frightening 50 degrees in the sun. Needless to say as two ginger haired , fair skinned english roses's , we are apprehensive indeed !

The race looks amazing , we will be with 1500 other competitors and staying in bedouin tents along the way with no connection to the outside world amidst the endless sea of sand. Like a moving burning man with a few less orgies, and a few more vacuum flat packed chicken cormas , trading blister packs, solar charges and and soothing each others sore muscles and broken wills and souls . Its gonna be large !

We are not sure what we have got ourselves into....  rapidly moving between phases of anticipation, nervousness, excitement , doubt and pain . Will it be worth it? can i do it? are the HOKA Speedgoat 3's really worth £135? what food do we bring etc etc.

We will run across numerous terrains, sand dunes, salt flats, mountains and rock. Just to make things that little bit more taxing, we will be traversing the course with our entire kits on our back, containing all of our food, cooking equipment, our sleeping bags, clothes, venom pump, flare, and every other essential supply required to survive this self-sufficient race.

We are really proud to say that we are racing to raise money for a fantastic charity Walk Once More:

All of what we are doing combined still doesn’t compare to how tough daily life is for millions of people around the World after falling victim to a spinal cord injury. In an instant, SCI robs the victim and their loved ones of so much. As things stand, once a person suffers damage to their spinal cord, it is almost always permanent, and the individual is usually left having to live with severe disability through paralysis. The research that Walkoncemore supports will make this a thing of the past before long. When that day arrives, new and old injuries alike will become temporary, allowing the person affected to regain full mobility. Funds raised will go only to the brightest minds in the field who are working tirelessly to make this happen as soon as possible. We are aiming to raise as much money and awareness as possible towards such a cure.

Any one of us can be affected at any time by this catastrophic injury, so you could say that the work of such a charity is a bit of an insurance policy for us all. With that in mind, please dig deep. Every little bit really does help, and will propel us round this difficult course. We are looking to raise a minimum of £10,000, but we may even exceed this with your kindness and generosity.

Many thanks in advance :)
