Story
The older scouts in the Fastnet Troop at 1st Warsash Sea Scouts will be paddling from Portchester to Emsworth across Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour and Emsworth Channel via the Portsea North creek. Depending on tides, this will be between 9 and 10 miles of paddling taking an estimated 5 hours. For safety reasons the trip will only be conducted if the weather is suitable therefore 2 dates have been set aside to attempt this, 12 June and 11 September.
This will be a challenge but is within their capabilities. They will require a positive, go-for-it attitude, some grit and determination and may have to morally support each other through the harder moments.
The scouts wanted to support a lifeboat charity so it seemed fitting to choose their local lifeboat, the Hamble Lifeboat.
Hamble Lifeboat is an independent lifeboat service operating since 1968 in one of the busiest stretches of water in the UK. Our standard operating area is Central Solent & Southampton Water and associated rivers Test, Itchen and Hamble. We rely on generous donations from the public in order for our entirely voluntary crew to provide this declared facility for the UK Coastguard. We receive no funding from the MCA or the RNLI.#Savinglivessince1968
