The 84 challenge...Why 84?

Currently in the UK, 84 men die from suicide every week.
The aim of the 84 challenge is to raise awareness of male mental health and to create a conversation about it. Every penny raised will be put straight back into providing mental health support for those who desperately need it whilst also running continuous volunteer training and awareness talks for communities, workforces and clubs.

My Father struggled with mental health issues that he felt unable to talk about and finally in his early 30’s, very sadly lost his life to suicide and so organisations that support men like him are very close to my heart. Suicide effects so many lives and the people left behind live with the struggle of losing a loved one and also the guilt that they were unable to help. It is vital that people who find it difficult to talk about mental health issues have a network of support and charities such as Tough Enough To Care particularly in the current circumstances that we are all facing, when people are feeling progressively isolated & afraid.

My challenge for 84 days...

I will be walking 8.4km per day for 84 consecutive days. I will be using the Strava app to keep track of this and will post updates on social media. For those who know me, it isn’t unusual to wake up with a thick head on the odd occasion so I’m sure some days will be a little trickier than others! I will be starting the challenge tomorrow (18th January) and this will end on 12th April. Some days will be split into two walks so the little puppy can come along!

Little by little and with the help of charities such as Tough Enough To Care, the stigma around mental health is changing and wonderful work to support those who are struggling is being achieved. These are hard times for us all but I do believe that more can be done to help those in need.
