Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
There is a dual purpose to this. The first is personal - I used to run long distances regularly, and did three half marathons in 2008/9/10. I then developed an ectopic heart rhythm through stress which meant that sometimes when I ran, my heart would 'kick off' and beat very irregularly. I would go dizzy and nearly black out. As a result, I became very scared of exercise and abandoned my love of running. Slowly, as the heart rhythm problem has improved and my confidence has started to return, I've reintroduced running back into my life. I have so missed running races, and I now feel ready to do a 5km again (even though part of me is still scared). I'm not sure I'll ever do another half marathon, but this race in itself is a personal milestone. Plus, the first time I ran again after a 1 1/2 year gap was in Paris, so it's nice to 'square the circle' and achieve the milestone here :)
The second part is professional. Every May, lawyers in London walk 10km around the Thames to raise money for the London Legal Support Trust. The Trust supports legal advice centres and Citizens Advice Bureaux in London and the South East so that proper legal advice is available to all who need it, regardless of financial means. Having volunteered in a CAB, I know how important they are. I did the walk in 2012, and colleagues of mine in Chambers are doing it this year. As I'm in Paris, I can't join them, but this is my way of contributing to the cause remotely.
