Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My mother, Karin, was diagnosed with cancer in late 2017. On the 8th May 2018 she lost her brave battle. The care, support and understanding that the Macmillan nurses provided to my mum as she fought to stay alive was simply above and beyond.
The photograph above was taken the day when Macmillan nurses wheeled my mother's bed outside so that she could feel the sun on her face one last time. In pain and bloated from the concoction of drugs she was taking, my mother's reluctance to leave the ward waned with the kind offer of an icecream (the simple pleasures!). Whilst they couldn't persuade her to open the champagne in the photo, they treated her to an ice cream in the sun and more importantly managed to take her mind off her condition for a few priceless minutes and moments.
As my mother's condition deterioated it was the Macmillan nurses who were instrumental in finding a suitable room in Brentwood Community Hospital where she could receive more one to one care. By moving her to the new hospital, not only was my mum more comfortable it also provided her with a level of privacy and dignity she needed. She passed away surrounded by her family, having received unbelievable care, support and treatment - at the heart of her care were Macmillan and their fantastic nurses.
I will never be able to thank them enough for what they did for my mother.
Every penny you donate will go towards supporting Macmillan Cancer Support. I will be undertaking the South Coast Challenge which is a 100km continous trek between Eastbourne and Arundel. I will be heading off early on the morning of Saturday 25th August and will walk through the day and through the night to arrive at Arundel at some stage on Sunday.
Thank you for reading my story and if you would be kind enough to donate it will help Macmillan Cancer Support to continue to provide the unbelievable level of love, care and support that my mother received to more people in need.
