Brighton Mums swimming 5 kilometres in the Sea for Children’s Mental Health
The “Friday Dippers”are a group of women drawn together by a love of the sea and a desire to improve both physical and mental health.
The group initially met on the beach ( every Friday) to dip and chat.
This was interrupted by a pandemic and numerous lockdowns.
After lockdown number 3 a ‘couch to 5km’ open water swim was created by the open water swimming society.
The Friday dippers decided it would be the perfect challenge.
As mother’s we become aware of the “pandemics toll” on our children’s mental health.
We’ve thus decided to do this very long swim for children's mental health.
We are raising funds for “young Minds” , the UKs leading charity for children and young people’s mental health.
Their vision is for us to live in a world where every young person who is struggling feels able to reach out and has people and services around them who can really help.
Over 60 mums have committed to the challenge and have been training in pods of 6-8. Swimtrek have supported us with training and tips and we are almost ready for the big swim on sept 11th.
We will swim from hove lagoon to Sea Lanes, have fun and raise money for this critically important issue.
