UPDATE- Ronnie has now gone to a loving new home. He has had two operations already and may need a third operation. He has gone to a fantastic home with someone who has had two poorly Bulldogs from us in the past and gave them a fantastic final few months in a loving home.
GablesFarm Dogs’ & Cats’ Home has recently taken in a 4 year old British Bulldog called ‘Ronnie’.
‘Ronnie’ was signed over to Gables Farm when his owner could no longer afford his veterinary care and could no longer bear the smell of his medical condition. He had been booked in to be put to sleep because his owners could not afford the £650 operation to remove his tail. He has a deep seated fungal infection in his tail which is causing his tail rot.
‘Ronnie’ will need to be castrated and vaccinated. He will also need an operation to amputate his tail. Due to an ongoing eye condition he will also need to have daily eye drops.
Deputy Manager Ruth Rickard said: “It is such a shame that Ronnie was nearly put to sleep due to his health problems. He is such a lovely boy and has a real zest for life. He can now look forward to a happy pain free future.”
It is estimated that it will cost the Home in excess of £750 to treat all of his health problems and ensure that he can live the rest of his life pain free.
The Home has a non-euthanasia policy and never gives up hope of finding a new home for a dog or cat. They will do whatever they can to find a home for an animal; this includes behavioural and veterinary care. All of the animals have a full health check when they arrive at the Home. They are also neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for fleas and worms.
. If Gables Farm is lucky enough to raise more money than is needed it will go into general funds for the other animals.
