We fund vital research into neuroblastoma to find new and better treatments

Story

Everyone!!!   Please take a moment to read Alex & Miriam’s story about their beautiful daughter Lizzy.

Miriam: ……………… As most of you know, and for those who may not yet, I apologise for the shock this will bring, our cherished little girl, our beautiful Lizzy B lost her life on July 5th, 2 days after her 2nd birthday to Neuroblastoma, the wretched cancer she had fought for 6 months.

Lizzy had an incredibly rare strain of a very rare and aggressive childhood cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma in January. This affects around 25% of the 60 children a year who get this disease. She was, staggeringly, 1 of only 15 children in the UK being treated at this level. Sadly, current treatments can be ineffective if a child's tumours have an amplification of the MYC-N gene. This is what caused Lizzy's cancer to take over her body and run out of control…………….

Lisa & I had the pleasure of meeting the Bremer family at a mutual friends Wedding when Lizzy was just six weeks old. We were really shocked to receive the news that earlier this year Lizzy had been diagnoised with Neuroblastoma and we followed her progress closely. We, along with many friends of the Bremer’s have been greatly saddened by the news that this dreadful cancer has taken Lizzy’s life. We are in awe of her parents strength & character and since Lizzy’s death lots of generous folk have been donating to the Neuroblastoma society. At the moment there are many efforts being made in clinical studies to find treatments to control this gene, none yet successful.

I’m planning to cycle 170 miles from Morecambe on the West coast to Bridlington on the East coast, to raise money and awareness for The Neuroblastoma Society. Funds are desperately needed to progress research to the point where children/babies, like Lizzy, don't have to suffer and die at the hands of what is otherwise a rampant disease.
