We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

A huge thank you for visiting my page.

I am running my first ever marathon for Diabetes UK.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My 11 year old son, Douglas, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of just 5. This means that now he has to count carbs for everything he eats and then inject himself with insulin to keep his blood sugar levels normal. This has obviously had a major life changing impact, not just on Douglas, but on all of the family.

I'm not a big fan of running, I'd much rather a sponsored beer-athon, but the thought of Dougie someday living an insulin free life helps drive me on.

Diabetes UK is the leading UK charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

A huge thank you for all your donations, it is very much appreciated. I completed the Marathon in 4hours 19minutes and the good news is my left knee is not the size of a beachball and I can put weight on that leg. My right knee however.........................

Thanks again

Garv
