Story

My story isn't really my story. However, here goes.

In October 2009 my Dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. I was truly heartbroken and shaken to my core. However, I had no need to be; Dad fought like a trooper and beat the cancer. My Dad, my hero!

However, fast forward 9 years and once again my Dad was having to attend hospital appointments, this time for a routine check up on a Triple A aneurysm. During scans for this, a growth was found on his lung. Following further tests, my dad was diagnosed with incurable stage 4 lung cancer.

Dad very quickly commenced treatment for the cancer, and underwent radiotherapy. However, because of the stress this was putting on his body, he could not undergo the treatment required for his aneurysm. He fought the cancer hard and was making good progress but unfortunately his aneurysm burst before he could finish his radiotherapy. On the 17th February this year, my Dad passed away.

As many of you know, cycling is my passion. My dad supported me in every event I undertook whilst he was alive. He was my best friend, and my hero, and he is now the driving force behind me completing some of the biggest challenges of my life, in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Over the next 18 months I will be pushing myself to undertake the following cycling challenges:

London Surrey 100 - Taking place in August 2019, this is a 100 mile ride through London and Surrey, starting at the Olympic Park and finishing on the Mall in Central London.

London to Paris - in September 2019 I will be embarking on a 5 day ride, taking me from Central London, through the English and French countrysides, before arriving in Paris and ending under the Eiffel Tower.

Land's End to John O'Groats - Taking place in June 2020, this is a 13 day ride from one end of the country to the other, covering nearly 1000 miles. This will be one of the toughest events I will ever do.

Macmillan supported my dad and my family through some of our toughest times, and now it's time that I give something back. Please, please, show your support as I undertake this mammoth challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you.
