Fundraising for Community Christmas
Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to raise money for Community Christmas.
You might not know anyone who will be alone at Christmas this year, but the chances are that there will be someone who has no friends, who has no family, in your town, in your village, or on your street who will be.
My name is George, and I, like many others believe that no one deserves to be alone at Christmas, and yet it is estimated that somewhere between 350-500 thousand elderly people spend Christmas Day alone.
Community Christmas works with volunteers to cut that number down every year. They work to match up lonely elderly people with volunteers who have an extra seat at their table on Christmas day and the adjoining days.
I want to climb the equivalent of the top five tallest buildings in the world as a fundraiser and word-spreader for Community Christmas. It will happen 9:00 to 12:30 on Friday the 17th of December.
These buildings are as follows:
Burj Khalifa (Dubai, UAE)– 828m - 163 floors
Shanghai Tower (Pudong, Shanghai) – 632m - 128 floors
Lotte World Tower (Seoul, South Korea) – 555m - 123 floors
Makkah Royal Clock Tower (Makkah, Saudi Arabia) – 601m - 120 floors
Ping An Finance Centre (Shenzhen, China) – 555m - 115 floors
These all add up to 3171 meters, or 649 floors. The whole climb will take me around three and a half hours in total of constant climbing at a slow jogging pace.
I want to raise £500 for Community Christmas. This could support 50 activities, match 100 lonely elderly people to local events or answer 250 calls from those who seek to find someone to spend the most magical day of the year with.
