Story

Givebackldn is a charity who's goals are to show others how they can giveback,  in life, to their communities and to the world.

Here we share Love Support Unites Story

Love Support Unite (LSU) began out of the work of it’s sister charity, Tilinanu Orphanage. Founded by Mercy Mkandawire, Alice met Mercy volunteering in Malawi in 2009, and became Founder of the UK side of Tilinanu, helping to build a loving home for the girls. Nina, her sister, joined her in supporting Tilinanu, the same year. Through this work, they became aware of the urgent needs of wider communities in Malawi, and so, with the help of Gift Mkandawire, Love Support Unite was born.

Working on very little budget and resources, Nina, Alice and Gift built the charity from the ground up with the intention to empower communities sustainably and elevate them from poverty using their 360 holistic approach to development, Foundations For The Future.

Gayle Berry joined Love Support Unite as a volunteer in 2014 to share her knowledge of mother and infant health and quickly became a co-founder of the mother and infant health initiative. She volunteers as a fundraiser in the UK and raises awareness Love Support Unite’s grass roots work.

FAMILY FUTURES SUSTAINABLE FARMING

What is family futures sustainable farming?

The program aims to help these family become food secure, provide nutrition for their family and surplus to sell to provide an income for school fees, mosquito nets and essentials for a healthy life. We provide them with farming inputs to farm 1 hectare of land, along with access to adult literacy, teaching, agriculture and business training.  The value of the farm inputs is paid back over two years, with 0% interest. This is then invested in farm inputs for another family in the same community. The program is designed to make family farms self-sustainable through effective management of resources. Families are able to farm their land (many for the first time), and to have excess crops to sell to buy farm inputs for the following year and pay school fees for their children.

What does your money buy?

£500 = 0% seed loan to families with 8-10 dependents. They educated them on how to grow from there own land. This program has 100% success rate. Families harvesting enough food to feed their families, enough surplus to sell enabling them to pay for the seeds for the following year, pay there children's school fees and to pay back the micro loan over the 3 years! Therefore giving them the tools, the support, and the education to support themselves and their future generations.

The Love Support Unite team, donors, volunteers and ambassadors are all one family working together through connection, unity and shared vision to create an empowered future for Malawi.
