Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After running my first ever marathon alone in shocking weather in the 'Virtual' London Marathon last October, I have been given the opportunity to run a second marathon. Fortunately this time I will get to experience the traditional London route with 10's of thousands of runners and spectators. On Sunday 3rd October my little legs will be going 10 to the dozen over the 26 miles in memory of my brother Gary and raising some vital funds for St Francis Hospice whose fundraising has been severely hit because of the Covid pandemic.
I lost my big brother Gary (Beef) to pancreatic cancer almost 7 years ago at the age of 53.
Gary got transferred to Saint Francis Hospice in Havering to receive specialist palliative care. Whilst the initial thought of being in a 'hospice' was frightening, from the moment that he arrived there he was put at ease by the amazing staff. Gary arrived at St Francis with an expectation of days or maybe just a few weeks but because of his amazing fighting spirit and the truly wonderful care that he received the weeks became months and he ended up seeing his final days after three months of arriving. During those three months, there was lots of laughter, lots of tears, I had some of the most difficult conversations ever with him about planning for a future for his family without him, but the one constant throughout this time was the unbelievable staff of St Francis, not only caring for Gary but offering support and a safe place for us all as a family. Gary lost his courageous battle on November 13th 2014 leaving his wife Julie and three children Lauren, Daniel & Josh.
Gary was a gentleman, one of 'LIFFE's' best.
Gary was my big brother, the person I looked up to growing up, he was responsible for getting me my first interview on the LIFFE floor, he was also the best man at our wedding and not a single day passes without him in my thoughts.
Please give generously to this wonderful cause of which is very close to my heart.
Unbelievably Saint Francis receives just 27% of their funding from the government and has to rely on donations of almost £8 million per year to be able to offer the wonderful services that it does.
If you want to follow my training progress I am recording all my runs on the Strava app.
