We fight for the hope of young people to create a society built for all children

Story

I’m Greg Baker, and a couple of years ago I had this daft idea of cycling between London and Stockholm to raise money for the Children’s Society. I work as a medical secretary and have just finished my law degree with the Open University. I've been cycling for fun for about 3 years now and this will without doubt be the biggest challenge I have every attempted.

The ride will mean cycling an average of 100 miles each day for 15 days, carrying my own clothes and supplies for each trip (I have to confess I’m not camping but staying in hotels on the way) but there is no support vehicles coming along – although a generous friend is helping to carry the bags to Dover on the first day! As it is unsupported the money donated will go straight to the charity rather than help paying the support drivers so more of it will get to those in need – and I’m paying for my own hotel and food / repair bills as well so none of it is being diverted that way either!

The charity does fantastic work with disadvantaged youngsters from a variety of backgrounds helping those who have suffered from abuse, who need help in caring for their parents or siblings, who are struggling with alcohol and drugs or who have disabilities.

Having been bullied as a child myself I have some inkling of how tricky life can be at times, and while I was lucky to have a loving and supportive family to guide me through things, not everyone is so fortunate.

I would be so happy if you would donate a little to this fantastic cause, I’ll be keeping a blog each day so you can watch my progress and hear about all my aching muscles as I cycle my way to Sweden.

There will be 4 people joining me to Amsterdam and then I am on my own all the way to Stockholm, Sweden.

Here is an outline of the route;

London to Dover - 92 miles, 5,683ft climbed

Dunkirk to Antwerp - 115 miles, 2,238ft
