For my next half marathon I am lucky enough to be returning to the Kingdom of Cambodia, a place which holds lots of special memories especially of it's people. So I have decided that whatever money (small or large) that I am able to raise should benefit the children in the country I am now privileged to run.
Cambodia has a healthy growing economy but is still one of the poorest countries on earth; my fundraising target of
£613 represents the nominal annual income per person. A third of the population still live on less than 1 dollar per day and over 40% of children are chronically malnourished. I last visited Siem Reap in 2007, so have had a taster for the beauty I will experience on the 21km route which passes by & through many of it's ancient temples. Whilst there then myself and colleagues
spent time with some children from a local orphanage, donating a few toys and importantly having time for a compulsory game of football. Their spirit and optimism left a lasting impression on all of us, and whatever we can give to grow the next generation will help to improve the lives of all the people of Cambodia in the long term.
In return for your generosity I will train my hardest, run my fastest on the 17th August and share some photo's of what should be a magical event.
