We raise funds for hydrocephalus research to improve patients lives and find a cure

Story

At the age of 4 months my brother, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. He has had two brain surgeries, one in which they placed ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt in his head, In order to move the excess brain fluid down to his abdominal cavity. These surgeries are not only risky but detrimental for any chance of survival. By creating and raising money for this walk we will be able to raise more awareness for people who suffer from it.

Join us as we support the Hydrocephalus Association! As you may know, hydrocephalus is a life altering, life threatening condition, caused by an abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid, resulting in pressure on the brain. The most common treatment for this condition is brain surgery to implant a medical device called a shunt, which has a 50% failure rate in children within the first two years. A shunt is not a cure as many patients endure multiple brain surgeries throughout their lifetime, some more than 100. Please help us find a cure!

About the charity

The mission of the Hydrocephalus Association is to promote a cure for hydrocephalus and improve the lives of those affected by the condition. We will accomplish this by collaborating with patients, caregivers, researchers and industry, raising awareness, and funding innovative, high-impact research to prevent, treat and ultimately cure hydrocephalus.
