Normally during the month of May Team Caring Breaks would have participated in the River Rock Belfast Marathon, Fun Run and Relay. However during the ongoing pandemic this has not been possible. I therefore intend to walk from Belfast Castle to McArt’s Fort (Top of Cavehill)  once every day for the 30 days of June! Yes! That’s right! 30 times up Cavehill in a blue tutu!

Caring Breaks is a lifeline for the family carers of adults with a learning disability, by providing a service which they tell us is a crucial element in making it possible for them to continue, not least by reducing their stress levels.  Recognising that family carers have the right to a good quality of life, and to have their own health, social and emotional needs met is at the heart of what we do. 

These periods of respite for family carers can often be the only relief they get from their caring responsibilities.  While family carers get time for themselves, we look after their sons and daughters or siblings – our clients – providing not just fun and social events, but also widening their understanding of the world around them and helping them take their rightful place in society.
