Story
Since January, the Form IV girls at Heathfield School, Ascot have been supporting the Slough Winter Nightshelter which runs for about 10 weeks through the coldest months of the year. The girls have been fund-raising, then once a week have used that money to buy food, make evening meals and to deliver this to the guests spending the night in the temporary shelters.
It has been an extraordinary experience for all of us involved. Not only have we been able to help in some small way with this fantastic and important local charity, but it has allowed us to meet and to get to know the people involved. The girls have been able to sit with, talk to and hear the stories, the backgrounds and the hopes of the men and women who are using the shelter - which has been an absolute life-line for some of them. It has been a truly humbling experience.
Now, the Form IV girls are going to spend the night sleeping rough to raise funds for next year's shelter. Mrs de Ferrer has already done her bit to kick-start the fundraising by running the Marathon des Sables and sleeping out in the desert and now it is the girls' turn. It won't be easy and it might be cold and quite tough, but we appreciate every bit of support you can offer.
Thank you,
Mrs de Ferrer and the Form IV girls
