I have run 3 half marathons having taken up running just over 2 years ago. I have always wanted to take up the challenge of a full marathon (26.2 miles), at this stage it seems rather daunting, but with over 5 months of serious training and support from my family and friends I am confident I can cross the line. I have chosen to raise money for the Road Victims Trust (RVT). This will give me the added incentive to  push my boundaries and to help the trust continue to help those who need support after losing someone tragically on the road. 

In 2012 a total of 79 people died on the road across Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, and many more suffered life changing injuries. What began as an ordinary day for 79 families, setting off for work, shopping, school or other activities, ended in their worst nightmare: a knock on the door from a police officer with the unenviable task of telling them that one of their loved ones had died.

A tragedy on the road grabs headlines for a day and is forgotten tomorrow. The aftermath for those involved goes on for months and even years. This is where the RVT's trained staff and volunteers in bereavement, trauma and the investigative and legal processes can offer the necessary support, working alongside the police and other agencies. 

My husband is a traffic cop, collision investigator and a family liaison officer for Cambridgeshire Police. He understands and has first hand knowledge of the guidance and support the RVT offers the victims of road deaths and serious injury collisions.
