Story

YOU JUST HAVE TO DREAM!

David Stanley, Musical Director, Teacher, Composer, Pianist and Organist, founded the Southend Mencap Music School in 2001 and in 2012 launched the UK’s first full time music education service specifically for children and adults with learning disabilities.  The Music Man Project provides education and enjoyment of music and performance which is of extraordinary benefit to the students.

David campaigns for equal rights for people with learning disabilities to perform at prestigious and aspirational venues.  After two outstanding
performances at The London Palladium, David realised his dream on Monday 15th April 2019, for his students to perform at The Royal Albert Hall.  Supported by Jenny Hitchcock and a truly team of amazing professionals, volunteers and carers, the students sang their hearts
out and played their instruments with enthusiasm and passion.

To have been part of the Community Choirs at all three concerts counts as some of the proudest moments of my life.  It is an emotional
experience to watch the students’ sheer joy and excitement as they performed.  Everyone takes part and their desire to express themselves through music is just wonderful.

Feeling totally inspired by MMP, I decided to organise a skydive to raise as much money as possible so that David’s dream to have a Music Man Project in every county in the U.K. can become a reality.   On Sunday 9th
June, at Headcorn Airfield in Kent, I will be jumping from a plane at 12,000 feet!  Along with four other brave and resourceful members of the Community Choir we are aiming to set a record breaking amount of money for this wonderful organisation.
Please help by donating what you can to make an incredible difference in the lives of some of our most vulnerable people.  Thank you so much,
