We, 4 PhD students from both Robert Gordon and University of Aberdeen, are going to run/walk around Loch Morlich located in the hearth of Cairngorm National Park for Tenovus Scotland. The aim is to raise awareness as well as money to support medical research throughout Scotland.
Tenovus Scotland is a great charity, making research for early career researchers possible, with small grants in the early stages of their research. Different disease relevant research areas are funded. They range from cardio-vascular disease, cancer and neurodegenerative. While providing small research grants they also fund PhD such as our self. We are doing research in many different areas, Matteo is completing his PhD project on Parkinson’s disease, Vasiliki is investigating if lipids can be used non invasively as an early diagnostic marker in breast cancer, Elena is studying the links between the gut microbiota, diet and health and Franziska is researching the potential use of rapeseed pomace (from locally grown rape seed) in the treatment or prevention of neurodegenerative disease.
We would like to invite people to join us in walking or running around Loch Morlich on the 5th August to help raise money for a charity organisation which represent a lunching platform for many young researchers at their early stage.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated since is going to make the difference in today’s research and tomorrow’s health.

Last year we were able to raise £1500, which were used this year to help fund a number of new research projects. We hope to raise an equal amount this year, to support further medical research next year.
