Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So once again I am heading to the hills on another silly challenge. Not satisfied with Kilimanjaro in 2013, Ben Nevis in 2014, Hadrians Wall Trek in 2015, Three Peaks in 2016 and all those stupid 10k runs in 2017, its time to head to the mountain I have dreamed of visiting since I was a little boy.
The 18 day expedition will see us hiking through the Himalayas for 12 days, travelling 120km, from the picturesque village of Lukla, nestling in the Nepalese Himalaya's, to the base camp of Mount Everest, and back again. The trek leads through the mountain range of 'gentle giants', encompassing some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable, until we reach the goal of Mount Everest Base Camp at 5,357 metres (17,500 feet), before heading to the summit of Kala Patthar at 5545metres (18,192 feet) for without a doubt, the best view of Mount Everest, and the stunning Khumbu Icefall.
Facing the challenge of consecutive days trekking up hill, altitude sickness, freezing temperatures, hair raising rope bridges, yaks and vegetarian eatables, will no doubt be as hard to face as it was on Kilimanjaro - but on this occasion will be a welcome relief as it will mean we have had a safe landing at the world most dangerous airport at Lukla, our entry point for the trek!!!
Once again I am raising funds for Caring For Life, who do fantastic work up in Leeds, and where my mum has found her vocation since my dad died 8 years ago. I am also supporting my friend Anthony Narain who is trekking with me, who is raising money for Cricket Without Boundaries - you can find his page on justgiving as well.
As always I will to continue to keep you updated on progress. Training is the current challenge, with various sub challenges selected as part of the training routine including:
"Run The Year 2018". I have committed to 2018 miles in 2018
Carsington Water 10k, Derby Great North Run, Bedford Twilight 10k, Cathedral to Castle 10 mile run, Abersoch 10k, and "Race at Your Pace - Climb the Height of Everest - 8848 metres" in a year.
So - no rest for the wicked!!!
Thank you for any support you can give - either to Caring For Life, or to me personally in encouragement over the next few months.
James
