TARKA: Together Aiding Refugees, Kindly, Actively We, TARKA Community Refugee Sponsors, are working to help Syrian refugee families who have had to flee the violence, the terror, and destruction of their homes. We live in Northern Devon; a world of peace and calm. These families will be unable to return to Syria, even when the conflict stops. So, the UN High Commission for Refugees is identifying those families most at risk, and we, along with other communities here in the UK, will each welcome a small number of families to build a new, safe, peaceful life within our community. They will come with nothing, apart from the clothes they wear and a few small possessions. We will welcome them; and help them to settle in. Our community will help them find a place to live; provide them with gifts to help them off to a warm, welcoming start, of food, clothes, furniture… We will help them find: schools for their children to learn; jobs for the grown-ups to earn, pay their way, and contribute to our prosperity. We will help them: to learn English; to join in our community life; to find their way around our beautiful world. We will help make a difference, a better life, for their family; and greater peace and contentment for ourselves. We will do this, with your help. Thank you.
