Story
Sadly as reported in an ‘update’, Joanna died on 29th July, the day before my Prudential ride. (I very nearly pulled out of the ride.) Pneumonia took the final credit for the chronic damage done by years of MS attacks. Now my hope is that this horrible condition can be contained then stamped out just as soon as possible.
This fundraising therefore gains extra importance not just as a thank you for the help the MS Trust gave to Joanna but essentially so that they may empower others to be fit, strong, aware and armed to face the challenges that life throws at them.
Joanna's fitness coach raised money by cycling 100 miles.
Joanna's response was to sell 100 cakes! She held several Cake Bakes
and raised thousands of pounds for MS research and MS care. Another Bake was planned when the wretched disease struck – leaving her in hospital for many months.
So the least I could do was saddle up to cycle another 100 miles - the former Olympic course, rather than try baking cakes.
The Olympic course was tough - but nothing compared to living with Multiple Sclerosis. The relentless and multi-faceted way it attacked and so dramatically weakened Joanna was devastating. The condition's impact went far beyond the usual conceptions of the condition.
Tough as it was I enjoyed the challenge of the ride – biting my lip up some of the Surrey hills but facing them with the determination to show that we will conquer MS.
Your donations spurred me on and continue to give the MS Trust vital money they need to fund their really useful programs to inform, support and nurse those effected by the disease. I am astounded by your generosity - but care and research is expensive and the money is needed.
My 'updates' show a snippet of my training but also pictures of Joanna.
