Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. and for your donation.

Ian

I ran the London Marathon in 1992 when my son Harry was two years old. He has followed and exceeded my achievement by becoming a serious athlete, completing Ironman Wales in 2015 and a number of other endurance events of which the family are very proud. Seeing him complete the 2021 London Marathon in October last year in turn inspired me to run again 30 years after my first marathon. To be able to compete and hopefully complete the event with my son will be amazing and I'm sure an emotional day.

I'm running the Derby 10k again in April 2022 and the Ramathon, Derby Half Marathon in June 2022 as part of the build up!

Rainbows Hospice do incredible work for terminally ill children, enabling and supporting families during some of the most challenging times. Every time I hear their story I am moved to tears. They do so much and deserve our help and our donations.

Harry

I'm thrilled to be running the marathon with Dad this year - I clearly
remember growing up admiring his framed London marathon medal and finish line picture. I thought it was the coolest thing that he had run all that way and I think it probably inspired me to get into running/cycling silly distances to earn a few medals of my own. Dad has always been out there supporting me during various running and triathlon events (see gallery - helping me with cramp on last year's finish line) so it will be exciting to run the marathon with him this year and see him out on the course and hopefully the finish line!

The work that Rainbows do in supporting children with serious or terminal illnesses is truly amazing - providing symptom management, respite activities, end of life care and bereavement support for the affected families. They are so worthy of our support and I'm delighted to be running in support of them. Thanks so much for any donations!
