Story
A few people have known this has been in the pipeline for a while but only as a concept…..until now!
So I’ve officially signed up to be part of a Relay team to swim across the English Channel at the end of August. Whilst some of the participants have had many months if not years of training and experience, I find myself a little out of my depth (sorry!) and have only been open water swimming a handful of times. Further to this I only have circa 10 weeks to conquer all the challenges I face to support the team and successfully get to France somewhere between the 28th August and 5th September (tides depending).
I am swimming for a charity called Swimtayka, who provide free swimming lessons and environmental education about clean water stewardship to underprivileged children who live along the earth’s open waters: rivers, lakes and oceans. More info can be found here - www.swimtayka.org
If anyone feels the urge to donate to this brilliant cause, alongside supporting me in the challenge my fundraising page can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jps88. Even if it’s just the equivalent of a pint or two, everything will be so very much appreciated.
I’ll be sure to update you all as I progress with my training, of which a weekend of Swimming in Dover Harbour and swims at Stoney Cove (which seems to be the coldest water I can find around currently) are up next. Dover Harbour is where I plan to complete my qualifying swim, which will be 90 mins swimming at around 14°C followed by an hours rest then back in for another hour.
Wish me luck!!
