Story
On Thursday 1st June I undertook a 24 hour digital 'fast'. This meant not using my smart phone, tablet, computer or TV for 24 hours. I wanted to prove to myself that I could go without technology and still function, and I wanted to raise funds for IofC.
Admittedly I forgot to set up my JustGiving page in time but I still went ahead with the fast!
It was a really great experience. I successfully manged not to use any of my devices. I did listen to the radio, while driving to my appointment, to get the news & hear some music. (I don't get a newspaper so without the radio wouldn't have know what was going on!). I paid by cheque for my treatment - yes, some businesses still accept cheques - but forgot I was trying not to use technology when I paid by card at the petrol/gas station!!
A fantastic day off. I did my chores mindfully, I talked to people and got the weather forcast from them instead of from an app! I spent hours working outside in the garden instead of working inside on my computer. I read a paperback book instead of reading via my Kindle app!
I had a few moments where I thought 'Oh I could check the weather/Facebook/email' but those passed.
Highly recommend this as a way of being kind to oneself, of being present, of being.
