Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We (Jaime and Lily) will be only drinking water - Yes that means nothing but unflavoured water for one month - 12th April to 12th May 2016. This means we will be giving up our daily coffee, tea, juice, and weekend wine and gin ( ok - yes the week wine and gin too !!!!)

WHY ????

Because we desperately need to raise money for water !!

Russ India (Russ Foundation) is a children's home in southern India where Jaime has spent happy times working with the children. They are in desperate need of help to deal with the shortage of water due to the failed monsoon. It is sad to see the usually lush campus looking so dry and lifeless but also very concerning for the impact on the children and the farm they depend on.

Russ Foundation experiencing a severe dry season and due to the failure of the usual rains the ground water level in Madurai has been badly affected. The temperature just keeps rising and the lack of rain and monsoon failure is making life difficult for all on campus.

This is really sad to see as it is so dry and much of the vegetation is at risk of dying. In fact ten trees are now dead and around 100 - 200 more trees are at risk of dying by the end of summer 2016.  Worryingly the temperature is rising each day; this makes the situation worse and it all looks very dry and brown. It is sad to say that the farm animals have nothing much to graze on other than eating the dry leaves. At this moment they do have water for domestic consumption, the dairy farm and for basic utilities but we are very worried. We are in need of rain or finding another alternative water supply.

We are drinking Water4Water to raise money for Russ Foundation to either :

1.Deepen the well. This is the most obvious option but comes at a cost of approximately £3,000 at a minimum.

OR

2. Sink a bore well, this would include a submersible motor pump. This is only for small consumption and for irrigation so we are not sure if this will be sufficient as the peak of the summer is still yet to come. The bore well would cost around £1,500 and we would need to supplement this by purchasing water for domestic purposes from container trucks every day. Unfortunately this is a costly option as it is approximately around Rs. 30,000 - to Rs. 45,000, every month (£315 - £475).

We would really appreciate your support, if you could donate any spare change - or maybe donate the cost of one of your coffee's/pints of beer/ glass of wine during the month…….. every donation counts !!!

We will give you weekly updates on how we are getting on - Or how Lily is managing Living with Jaime not having a daily bucket of coffee!! (those of you that know Jaime will know that this is unchartered territory- so wish Lily Luck !!)

Russ Foundation are also looking for information regarding any organisation that can fund water projects or can support them with sponsors and donors for the cause. If you know of anyone who can help please get in touch via this email address: tjhfenton@gmail.com

Many thanks

Jaime And Lily
