Story
So I'm running the Milton Keynes half marathon to raise both money and awareness for Winter Night Shelter MK. If you live in MK then you will have no doubt witnessed the huge amount of homeless sleeping rough on the streets, by the station and under the underpasses. Using whatever they can for shelter from the weather and to keep warm. Whilst we walk past heading for a warm home and a safe place to sleep, these people sleep hungry, cold and open to not just the winter weather but violence on a daily basis.
The Winter Night Shelter provides supervised overnight accommodation to homeless and vulnerable people who would otherwise be rough sleeping during the extreme winter months between early December and and mid-March each year. It works in partnership with several Milton Keynes churches that provide their facilities free of charge. A large team of volunteers from across the city come together to cook nutritious meals and provide a friendly safe environment each evening.
The Winter Night Shelter needs support, volunteers and help funding to continue offering this support to Milton Keynes homeless. If you have read this then thank you and if you are able to donate, thank you even more!
