Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This is a bit of a family tradition. Lance, my father started this about 20 years ago. 8 years ago he decided to retire from the annual bike ride. In true family tradition he just passed the baton to me. That first year I pulled out the bike mother bought for me when I was 13. It was a second hand Carlton 5 speed and I loved it. The reason I was bought the bike was slightly bizarre. I found a Carlton 10 speed Racing bike dumped in a copse straight after coming out of Church one Sunday. I had handed it in to the Police and was told if it was unclaimed after 28 days I could claim it. If I didn't it would be auctioned. It was claimed at about 22 days. I was crestfallen. Mother bought the bike I am still riding to reward the right thing being done.
I am still riding that bike for the 8th year since I pulled it out of the shed. I have made some changes to it because I am not as young as I was. It now has 12 gears, new wheels, the frame was shot blasted and resprayed, it gained a longer seat tube, the saddle is from the Dutch manufacturer Lepper. Which means that the handle bars, brakes, pedals and the frames steel are original. Overall I still love the bike.
For the past few years I have visited 32 churches and cycled about 50 miles in the day. This year I aim to visit a few more if I can.
I cycle for Friends of Essex Churches Trust and All Saints Church, Rettendon. The money raised is split between the two. It is for the upkeep and repair of the Church and all Christian places of worship in Essex. As most counties do something similar it is a national effort to raise funds to keep these historic buildings in good repair.
