Story
In March 2009 my father, Don was diagnosed with ethmoid sinus cancer. Following operations and radiotheraphy he was then diagnosed with a series of brain tumours in 2010. It was at this
point he came under the care of Cynthia Spencer with home visits until he was then admitted to the inpatient unit in November 2010. His care was quite frankly amazing. Every effort was made to keep him comfortable and allow us as his family to spend time with him and be kept informed of his progress. Dad was then discharged from the inpatient unit on 24th December 2010 and was cared for at home by Cynthia Spencer’s wonderful hospice@home team so we could be with him and that made all the difference. Being able to be with Dad
at home was invaluable and we couldn’t have doe it without the support of the hospice@home nurses. We’ve supported the hospice ever since and my family and I have taken part in Cycle4Cynthia many times since then and supported in any way we can by raising awareness for their vital services.
In order to thank the hospice again for the wonderful care they gave to my father, Don I’m cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in September and am aiming to raise £2,500 to support the hospice’s services. Myself and my family would be so grateful for any donations you can make to help me reach my fundraising target. I’ll be updating my page and social media regularly to keep you all up to date with my training and how the bike ride goes.
Dad passed away in Spring 2011 and it’s in his memory that I’m taking on this epic bike ride to say thank you to Cynthia Spencer for the support they gave to our family when we needed them. Every donation I receive will then go on to help other families have this same support when they need it to.
