Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Bungee will take place on the 25th August 2013.

On the 15th June 2005 my wife Christine Monaghan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she had only just turned 61 years old, her birthday being on the 8th June, we believe she had the disease at least for the 3-4 years before this as she was being treated for depression. It has been a struggle ever since Christine was diagnosed with this awful disease.

Over the past 8 years we have had lots of ups & down, from being declined the medication to help slow down the process of the disease and then fighting this decision to be finally given the medication also taking care of Christine and also arranging for the best care and and helping to provide this i have changed our home so it accommodates all her needs so she can live a very comfortable life at home and not in a carehome.

Over the years myself and my 5 children have had to try to come to terms with watching this disease take over not just her life but all our lives.

I will be doing this bungee jump at the age of 68 with my youngest son Nick, so please feel free to donate for him on this page too.

In 2009 I also did a tandem parachute jump for Alzheimer’s with friends & family also taking part, a fun day was also organised were we raised over £10,000.

How your money will help...

£12.50 could enable one caller to the Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Helpline to receive the advice and support they need.

£50 could pay fora PhD researcher for a day to continue vital research into understanding the causes of dementia.

£100 could pay for a brain scan for a participant in a clinical trial to help improve diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease.

£750 could pay for the running of Talking Point for one week. Talking point is a 24/7 online community for people with dementia, their carer’s, family & friends.

£1,509 could pay for the running of a Dementia Cafe for 1 week

£2,000 could support over 10,000 families with vital advice on how to talk to children about dementia with the Society's award-winning 'Talking to children about your illness' booklet.

Now for the facts:-

Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer cardiovascular disease and stroke.

One in three people over 65 will die with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia and for those who also care for them like myself, it will be great to raise a lot of money for this worthy charity.

So dig deep and donate now
