Story
Hello, I am James and am 11 years old. In September 2013 I suffered a neck injury playing the sport I love, rugby. This meant I couldn't use my legs properly and had to spend time in hospital and at home, away from school. I had to be in a wheelchair for some of the time and wear a neck brace for 3 months.
I am happy that I have just been told that I can begin to start jogging again and hopefully begin running again soon.
During my time in hospital, I thought about how difficult it must be for rugby players and their families when a player suffers a permanent disability caused by a serious injury playing a sport they love. It is for this reason I would like to raise as much money as possible for the RFU Injured Players Foundation. When I was lying in hospital unable to move my legs, I really didn't know if I would walk again, let alone run.
SO, my challenge to myself is to get myself fit enough to run a mile without stopping - something that many injured rugby players will never be able to do again. A special wheelchair to play wheelchair rugby in costs a lot of money and I really wanted to try this when I was in my wheelchair but my Mum didn't let me! Please look at the RFU Injured Players Foundation website to see how they support the players and their familes by making changes to their homes and qualitiy of life.
Thank you very much for supporting me and this great charity.
James
