I am proud to have this opportunity to raise money towards an end for 3 forms of women's cancer - breast cancer, ovarian cancer and cervical cancer. Despite the nervousness of facing 12 days and 1,013 miles of cycling from John O'Groats at the far north east point of Scotland to Lands End at the furthest south westerly tip of Cornwall, and the long weeks of training this will entail, I am determined to beat my £3k sponsorship target and to complete this challenge.

I got back in to cycling as an adult in 2008 through spin classes where I lost weight and gained fitness. In 2013, I took up running, made a great group of running friends and entered the Great West Run in 2014. I was fortunate enough to get a ballot place in the London Marathon in 2015 and since then have run over a dozen half marathons across the UK, including the Great North Run, Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester, plus Barbados on my 50th birthday. Some of  these events were sponsored and I raised over £4,000 for charity.

My hubby Sean and I made friends in spin class who lent us bikes and took us out cycling on weekends. It was terrifying at first being back out on the roads on a bike again but the enthusiasm of our friends and the warm, social days we shared with them inspired Sean and I to buy our own bikes. My love of a challenge has since led me to a duathlon and then my first sprint triathlon. Road cycling has given me an exciting new challenge and I am indebted to our friends for the journey they started me on.

Very sadly, the same friend who encouraged me back onto a bike has recently lost her life to a late diagnosis of a women's cancer. My JOGLE challenge is in memory of, and tribute to, her vigour, spirit and courage and is for all other women facing cancer. Please support my fundraising if you can.
