Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Mum's Just Giving page.
Mum loved her books and, latterly, her talking books. When Tony and I were young, and long after she had left school, Mum went to night school to study for O'Levels in English and English Literature. I have found a certificate for an A in English Language but have not found the one for English Literature, so I am going to assume an A also :-) Over the years Mum joined a number of literature and poetry societies, enjoying the research this involved, the theatre trips and the opportunity to share opinions across a group of like-minded individuals.
Books can be a journey into a new world, a place to learn and, when needed, somewhere to escape to. Talking books have come of age in recent years and give the opportunity for those with reading difficulties, sight impairment and other disabilities to enjoy the world of literature.
The patron of Listening Books is Stephen Fry, who can be found narrating many talking books. Through personal experience, Mum was always attuned to those with disabilities or who were otherwise disadvantaged and I think she would appreciate that the enjoyment she received from talking books can be passed onto others.
Thank you, Andrew
