We provide specialist nurses to support families affected by dementia

Story

The Great North Run returns to its usual route this year – 13.1 miles from central Newcastle to the coast at South Shields. Some 50,000 people from the elites who will do in in just over an hour to the mass of charity runners, many of whom will take rather longer but who together, will raise a whopping great £25 million.

It’s never dull with so many great charities represented, not to mention those who run with a wheelie bin on their back or dressed as an inflatable dinosaur.

I will be there for running for Dementia UK almost one year to the day after I lost my brother, Bruce to young onset dementia at the age of 60.

Why Dementia UK? Because of the vital work the charity is doing to raise money to fund Admiral nurses.

An Admiral nurse is a dementia specialist who helps families manage complex needs considering the person living with dementia and the people around them. When people are struggling, Admiral nurses  help them take back control. They give friends and family the confidence to manage their future with dementia. You can read more about the charity here – https://www.dementiauk.org/

I did my first Great North run last year. I was nervous going into the unknown in terms of what I could achieve and my stamina but I loved every minute and that and the fund raising are  why I’m doing it again. So please dig deep and sponsor me whatever you can by using the JustGiving link above.

Please share this page and pass on so that others can support the work of Dementia UK.

Thank you.
