Story
Apparenty this is where I am supposed to make an impact, where I tug at your heart strings and implore you to donate...
So here goes, if you've gotten this far you will know that I have decided to attempt Kilimanjaro in August 2010. The cause is Cancer Research. Why...?
We have all heard the facts and figures but here is a little reminder...
- There are more than 200 types of cancer, each with different causes, symptoms and treatments.
- - Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer in the UK.
- -There are more than 293,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed each year in the UK.
- - More than 1 in 3 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.
- - Worldwide there were around 11 million new cases of cancer in 2002 and a quarter of these were in Europe.
- - Cancer is the number one fear for the British public, topping the list over Alzheimer's, heart attack and terrorism.
So take a look around, if its not you its going to be someone else close to you, we all know someone who has been affected directly or indirectly by cancer.
Cancer Research UK supports scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK, who work together to investigate all aspects of cancer as well as producing information for audiences including cancer patients and their families, the general public and health professionals - working together to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer.
Anyway enough with the serious stuff - this is my offering, pushing myself a little bit harder this year but something I have wanted to do for a little while now...so please donate and think of me on the 29th August when hopefully I would have reached the summit and will be looking out onto the Roof of Africa.
