Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This is the fourth year of the Foundation’s Disability Programme in Grenada – offering Physical Education to Children with Special Educational Needs (PECSN), and the programme continues to develop and grow each year.

The inaugural program in 2010 saw Rob Burton - a specialist disability football coach and Deputy Chief Officer at West London disability charity DASH – fly out to Grenada and deliver workshops and specialised coaching sessions to the three Special Educational Needs Schools on the Island, namely: Limes, St Andrews and Victoria School – demonstrating to the teachers, new techniques when dealing with children with disabilities and special needs.

The Foundation has since linked up with Ross Macdonald, Head Teacher of Meadow High School in Hillingdon – one of the UK’s largest schools for special educational needs, to provide skill-sharing, support and long-term assistance to the teachers, staff and students of the schools, and Cae Menai David - one of the Founders of The Golf Trust - which was set up to highlight and develop the inclusive values of golf.

Ross and his school have now also kindly donated interactive white boards, projectors and computers for each of the schools which are currently being shipped to Grenada ready for the Foundation’s next visit in October. Ross will be travelling to Grenada with an IT professional who will ensure that all of the equipment is installed correctly in each of the schools and the teachers are shown how to fully utilise the technology. Ross will also use the opportunity to take time with each of the Head Teachers to talk through the options around curriculum design, planning and assessment ideas with them.

In October both Rob and Cae will be flying out again to deliver a programme of sports activity to each of the schools. This year they have extended their trip so as to incorporate a visit with some sports delivery in Carricou – a neighbouring Island to Grenada, as the Foundation have received numerous requests to extend delivery to encompass this Island too, and ensure the children of Carricou don’t miss out on the activities provided.

Both coaches are keen to revisit the children in Grenada and continue the programme of work that they have helped to deliver and develop over the last 4-years. However, due to the level of sponsorship the Foundation currently receives to deliver the programme, both Cae and Rob are raising their own funds to cover the cost of their flights – a sign of their commitment to the programme.
