Story
Jean pioneered research into the history of women's role in the care of mothers in pregnancy and childbirth. Much of this history had been diminished by earlier writers from classical to modern times or lost altogether. Her erudition and high standards of scholarship inspired many others to follow in this field of study. She championed the continuation of midwifery as a separate profession which should not be subsumed into general nursing. It seems fitting that to commemorate her achievement donations should be invited to a charity which does so much good work supporting pregnant mothers and their babies in poor countries not least by providing modern training and equipment for local midwives.
